LIBRARY/ARCHIVES EXPERIENCE, THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY:

Curator, American Music Collection, The
New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Music Division,
1991-present.
- Administer the American Music Collection of scores, manuscripts,
books and archival collections devoted to American music.
- Establish and maintain donor relationships in an effort to acquire
new collections. This requires familiarity with the collection as
well as legal policies of the library concerning gifts and acquisitions
past and present. In turn this necessitates a working knowledge
of the proper administration and application of copyright and ownership
issues that would have a direct impact on the library's relationship
with publishers, donors and their estates while balancing and carrying
out the library's established policies on both preservation and
access. Work closely with other organizations in the promotion of
American music or to organize, implement and participate in outreach
programs, conferences etc. Have worked with other Lincoln Center
constituents such as the New York Philharmonic, The Chamber Music
Society of Lincoln Center and the Lincoln Center Jazz Department
on various programs that require specialized scholarly research
or assistance in the use of rare library materials.
- Served on the advisory panel for the 1997 Henry Cowell Centennial
Celebration.
- Resource person for performers, composers, musicologists and others
in the field of American music who are engaged in research, writing
and publishing as well as innovative music and arts programming
such as those of Wynton Marsalis, Ken Burns, and many others creating
and documenting American music.
- Have written successful grants for federal (Title II-C) and state
funding for long term divisional projects in the areas of collection
processing and archival preservation. Assist Chief of the Music
Division in establishing divisional policies regarding new global
technologies as well as maintaining the established divisional policies
regarding preservation and collection development. I have also been
involved in divisional decisions and plans for the future renovation
of the Performing Arts Library.

- Perform specialized reader relations reference duties as required.

- Supervision of conservation and microfilming projects for the
general music collection (included writing and implementing proposals
for state and federally funded projects).

MUSIC COMPOSITION
|
George Boziwick has had works premiered by the Dorian
Wind Quintet, the New York Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet, the
Catskill Chamber players and others. Commissions have come from
pianist Loretta Goldberg, Goliard Concerts, The Greenwich Village
Orchestra, and Orchestra New York. Works have been selected for
performance by the National Association of Composers, the Newport
Music Festival, Composers Concordance, and the MidAmerican Center
for Contemporary Music (at Bowling Green Ohio). Mr. Boziwick
holds an MA in Music Composition from Hunter College and has studied
with Donald Lybbert, Bruce Adolphe and Barbara Kolb. His music
is available from Red Skies Music (owned by George Boziwick).

- 1996: Meet the Composer grant for an evening of music by
George Boziwick at the Greenwich House Music School (Mostly New Music Series) performed by the
Catskill Chamber Players.
- 1990-1995: Five Margaret Fairbank Jory Copying Assistance
grants awarded by the American Music Center to prepare
works for their premiere performances.
- 1992: Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust grant
to assist in financing the recording of three works by George
Boziwick on the Opus One label.
